The OS 5000 series takes audio from single-track CDs giving it a number of significant advantages over both flash card and tape download digital announcers.
Advantages over Flash Card systems:
- CDs are inexpensive to distribute (under a 50 cents) as compared to flash cards ($15 or more)
- CDs are easy to create, utilizing off-the-shelf software and an ordinary CD recorder
- CDs are easy and inexpensive to mass duplicate (can be duplicated at up to 52x speed)
Advantages over Tape Download systems:
- CDs provide higher quality source audio
- Takes advantage of a CDs ability to access audio files directly without the need to rewind or fast forward to find specific message content
- Audio content on CDs can be mass duplicated at up to 52x without any loss in audio quality.
- Gives the user precise control of messages being recorded
- Lets the user know available recording memory as message tracks are selected
